We want BetterBite to be usable by as many people as possible, including people who use
VoiceOver, larger text, or other assistive technology. This page describes honestly where the
app stands today, what we know still needs work, and how to tell us when something blocks you.
What we are aiming for
Our target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, and
Apple's accessibility guidance for iOS. We are not claiming to have met that standard in full.
We are working toward it.
Where the app stands today
Things that work now:
Every button in the app has a spoken label, so VoiceOver announces what a control does rather than just saying "button".
The app supports both light and dark appearance, and a high-contrast black-and-white theme.
Text is set against backgrounds chosen for contrast, and colour is not the only way information is conveyed — over-target and under-target states carry text and position, not just red and green.
Nutrition information is text, not images of text, so it can be read aloud.
Nothing in the app flashes or auto-plays audio.
Things we know are not good enough yet, stated plainly:
Dynamic Type is not fully supported. Most text in the app is set at a fixed size and will not grow when you increase text size in iOS Settings. This is the largest accessibility gap in the product and the one we are working on first.
The app has not been formally audited by an independent accessibility specialist, and it has not been tested in a structured way with blind or low-vision users. We are not going to claim otherwise.
Charts and progress rings convey information visually. The same numbers appear as text nearby, but the graphics themselves are not individually described.
The camera-based food scan depends on framing a photograph of a meal, which is harder without sight. Barcode scanning, the searchable food database, and manual entry are alternative ways to log the same meal, and all three are reachable with VoiceOver.
The parts that are not ours
BetterBite is an iOS app, so it inherits the accessibility features built into iOS —
VoiceOver, Dynamic Type, Bold Text, Reduce Motion, Increase Contrast and Voice Control. Where
our app does not yet honour one of those settings, we have said so above.

We aim to reply within 5 working days. If something prevents you from using a feature
you have paid for, tell us and we will sort out a refund while we fix it.
How this page is maintained
We review this page whenever we ship a significant change to the app, and at least every
six months. It is dated at the top so you can see how current it is. When we fix something
listed above as a gap, we will move it up rather than quietly delete it.
